MY STORY
I started skiing at age 3 and began racing at age 6. I’m 17 now and the level of competition has changed a lot since I first started ski racing. I used to attend Mt. Hood Academy for High School, a school catered to a ski racers busy schedule, but this summer I completed my senior year through a summer school program in Longview and graduated early. Skiing has always been something I’ve loved and something I want to do for the rest of my life. My goals for the sport are to qualify for the U.S. Ski Team in the next year and also to compete in the Olympics.

THIS YEAR
My brother, Fritz, is attending college out of state at University of Utah this year. This is a big financial burden which makes it even harder to pay for me to compete internationally. When traveling to races, the expenses include transportation, food, lodging, tickets, shipping equipment, coaching, entry fees, and other things as well. I have to pick and chose which competitions or camps to attend in order not to exceed my budget for the season. This year, I have plans to travel to Colorado, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere. This will be more traveling than I have ever done in the past, which means it will be more expensive as well. I just recently found out that I am one of 6 girls to be invited to race and train with the U.S. Ski Team in Austria for two weeks this January. This is a big opportunity for me, but the price of the project may keep me from attending.

LAST YEAR
Last year, I was skiing better than I ever had. I was preparing to compete in the Junior Nationals competition when I crashed and dislocated my shoulder in a different race. I was able to pop it back into place, and with two months of proper rehab, I returned to the slopes to finish out my season. I was able to compete in both the Junior National race but also qualified for the U.S. National Race. At U.S. Nationals, world cup skiers such as Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso were there competing against me. I dind’t expect to make it to this race after my injugy, it was more than I could have asked for. The injury to my shoulder required surgery to fix. I went under the knife in April and have spent all summer rehabbing at physical therapy. I’m cleared for sports 100% now and can’t wait to get back on skis.
