LOA Physicians Attend National Conference
Doctors Bruce Blackstone, Dave Black, Jon Kretzler and Bill Turner of Longview Orthopedic Associates attended the 75th annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) in Las Vegas in late February.
Founded in 1933, AAOS provides musculoskeletal education to orthopedists throughout the world. This year’s event drew more than 14,000 orthopedic surgeons.
Black focused on presentations dedicated to hand surgery techniques and research, while Kretzler attended a symposium that discussed graft replacement designed to improve stability in ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction. Blackstone attended courses on shoulder arthroplasty, instability repair, and rotator cuff repair.
“As surgeons, we’re always striving to keep abreast of new and improved techniques, especially those that apply to repair or reconstructive surgeries,” Blackstone said. “This conference is a great source of information.”
Turner was involved in a workshop on managing difficult rotator cuff tears and another on strategies for dealing with early to moderate stages of arthritis.
“I also attended lectures on innovative techniques for minimizing pain following joint replacement surgery,” Turner said. “I’ve been using some of these same techniques for the past 20 months with remarkable success, and the information I gained at the conference will help me refine my protocols to benefit future patients.”
