Staff members from Longview Physical & Sports Therapy (LPST) and Longview Orthopedic Associates (LOA) continued their tradition of providing coverage at the Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo at the Cowlitz County Fair on July 30th and August 1st.

“We had a table set up in the rodeo chute area,” said Certified Athletic Trainer Ed Earnest of LPST. “We were there to do minor triage, which typically includes taking care of cuts, abrasions, and contusions.”

“The worst injury we’ve dealt with happened in 2008 when a bull rider was bucked off and got kicked in the kidney area,” said Earnest, who was volunteering for the fourth consecutive year.

“He was taken to the hospital, and they discovered he had a fractured liver. Part of it had to be removed that night. There wasn’t anything that complicated this year.”

George Palmer, PT (Longview Physical & Sports Therapy), Mike Nailon, M.D. (Kaiser Permanente), Beth Mraz, ARNP (Longview Orthopedic Associates), and Mark Kranz, M.D. (Cascade Associates) assisted Earnest.
